1. Marta and her friends want to strike because they don't feel that they aren't treated well enough and they deserve higher wages for their work.They don't feel that they are being treated well enough becasue some camps have better conditions than others. Like how some camps have toilets and in other camps, people have to go in ditches.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

2.Many people don't want to strike because it is during the depresssion and many people are looking for jobs. If they strike, and the owners of the land don't want to give them what they want, they will have no problem fireing them becasue there are many other people who need a job, so they can hire people quickly. Also, it would be hard for them to find a new job because many people are seaching for jobs at that time.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

3. The Maxicans fear the OAKIES because they are all coming over to California in search of jobs. Since the OAKIES are American, the owners of the land might want to hire them instead of the Mexican immigrants.

1. Marta represents independance and someone who fights for their rights. What she does not understand is that there are many people that need jobs and that they could be replaced with people who would not strike in a heartbeat. She doesn't look into the future at what might happen from what she does.

2. They just want a roof over their head and a payment so that they can provide their family with food and water. They don't want better living conditions or anything like that.

3. The Okies are white, and they are respected more and get better living conditions that the black mexicans.

1. They wanted to strike because they were not getting a fair wage and the americans are getting more money then they are, but they are working the same job.

2. They did not because if they went on strike, the owners will hire the OKIES and they will not be allowed to get back in there job. Also, mama can not afford to lose their house, because thay will not have a house if their lose their job.

3. They fear the OKIES because if the mexican strike the OKIES will take their job and the mexicans will not get there jobs back.

1} Marta and her friends want to strike because if they all stop working and all Mexicans are juntos toghether it could help all of them.

2} People in Esperanza's camp don't want to strike because on page 134 it says... " There are many of us who don't want to get involved in the strike because we can't afford to lose our jobs, and we are accustomed to how things are in our little community."

3}The Mexicans fear the Okies because many people are looking for jobs and in Oklahoma there is little work, little rain and little. So they don't have as much luck in Oklahoma as in California.

1.) Marta and her friends want to strike because they feel that they're being treated unfairly. They compare their life to a cat's - on page 132, Marta says, holding up the kitten... "this is what we are! Small, meek animals. And that is how they treat us because we don't speak up! If we don't ask for what is rightfully ours, we'll never get it! Is this how we want to live? With no decent home and at the mercy of those bigger and richer than us?" Marta doesn't think it's fair what the owners are providing for them to live in, so her and her friends want to go on strike to try to improve what they're living in but since it's in the Great Depression, it's not a very smart thing to do.

2.) Many people in Esperanza's camp refuse to do a strike because they just want to work and put food on the table for their children. Also, since it's in the Great Depression time, if they stop working it's not bad because they can just find another person to work there because plenty of people need jobs. Probably what they used to work for went out of business or something so they need to get money and get food and the only way they can do that is if they have a job.

3.) The Mexicans fear the OKIES from Oklahoma because if the Mexicans go on strike, the OKIES will be hired for their jobs and the Mexicans will be fired. There are a lot of OKIES looking for jobs so they will have no problem hiring them if the Mexicans strike.

1. They want to strike because they dont want people who live in Amrica to get better living conditions then them just because there from Mexico.
2. People in the camp don't want to strike because there are people who could use the jobs and are frist in line to go to the camps like the Okies so its very easy for the Mexicans to lose there jobs.
3. The mexicans fear the Okies because since there from America they are a looked at as better then the Mexicans. So the Okies can take the place of the Mexicans.

1. They think that they are being treated like kittens. They think that the Okies might be getting better things. Also, the only way that they can get even with them is to stop working,and go on strike.

2. If they stop working then they might not get what they want and they might be replaced by any one. Every one wants a job these days. Also, they only want to feed there familys and get money.

3. i think that they fear the okies because they will be the ones that take over when they are fired. Also, they think that they have a better cabin, etc.

1.* Marta and her friends want to strike because she nkows that at any time the people owning the buisness can give better conditions to anyone besides them, but they wouldn't give it to the Mexicans because they are much lower class. Also, because they want better living conditions any way, so if they strike, they think they can get better living conditions because they are refusing to work.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
2.* Many people in Espernaza's camp do not want to strike because they have a better camp then some of the others, so they don't want to lose that if their jobs get taken away. All they need to worry about is feeding their families and taking care of their families. None of them want to loose their luckiness.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
3.* Mexicans fear the OKIES from Oklahoma because they are desperate for jobs, so if the Mexicans go on strike, they can easily lose their jobs because their are plenty of OKIES who are in need for jobs to ust replace them.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

2. They do not want to strike because they think that if they strike at he peak of cotton season that the people will give the jobs to other people and they can't pay for there house without work so they will not strike.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

3. They fear they Okies because if they go on strike and lose there jobs then the Okies will get the jobs. The Okies already have better living conditoins so if they get more money they will become even more rich.

1. Thy want to strkie because they can't get good rooms because they don't have a man of the household like esperanza is preting to be juan couises when she is not. The cotton feilds were also destroyed so they have nothing to lose now.

2. Many people do not want to strike because if they do the okies will just take their job and they may not even win the strike. THey also just want to be able to feed there family. They don't really care about the codintions of the house. They just want to suopprt there familys.

3. They fear them because if they strkie they will lose there job and the okies will take there jobs. They will not be able to earn money for there family.

1) Because they think that they treat them bad because they are Mexicans but Isabel said that they are one of the ones who are treated the best.
2) Because there are alot of people that need jobs and if they let go of the Mexicans it wouldn't make a diffrence because they can get other people really quick.
3) Because there are alot of them and sense Marta and hundreds of people want to strike if the company hears about that they might let go of the Mexicans and hre the Okies.

1. Marta and her friends want to strike because they want better living conditions. Since they live in the worst conditions of the entire farm, they would want to have the same conditions as the others.
2. Many people in Esperanza's camp not want to strike because they cannot afford to lose their jobs. Even if they do the companies can replace them with OKIES from Oklahoma who keep on coming because of the drought in Oklahoma.
3. Mexicans fear the OKIES from Oklahoma because since the drought in Oklahoma All those came to California to farm. If the Mexicans strike, the OKIES will replace them.

1. They want to strike because they think they need better living conditions. Wha it didn't say in the book is probebly this that if they give them better conditions the farms might go bankrupt and everyone will lose there job.
!@%$)%$@#&($#5$@#$9%*@$$#@#*^%&!75@14^134
2. Because then those people will lose there jobs and the owner of the farm doesn't care so he'll just get replacements.

1. I think that Marta and her friends want to strike because they believe that everyone should have the same living areas and payments.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Josefina says that if they strike, they will probably loose their jobs and they can not feed their families. As a result, the OKIES will be happy to take the hundreds of open jobs in the camp.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3. They fear them because if anyone in the camp looses their jobs, the OKIES will fly in and snatch up the jobs as soon as the possibly could.

1.) Marta wants to strike because she wants to have better living conditions so she was planning to stop working until she got better living conditions.
2.) People don’t want to strike because this is in the middle of the depretion so there are many people from Oklahoma waiting to get a job, so instead of them getting better living conditions they would possibly just get fired and hire the people from Oklahoma.
3.) The Mexicans fear the Okies because like I said before it is in the middle of the depretion, any faults or mistake then you could get fired because there are A LOT of people waiting for jobs so the owners of the “place” would have a choice.

Marta and her friends want to strick because they are treated like cats and don't have a backbone and need to stand up for things like hot water. Also Josefina says that they want to make 10 cents insted of 7 cents per pond of cotton.
They don't want to strick because they will lose their jobs, it is the great depresion so people don't have jobs, and oklahoma is having a drought and people are coming here for work.
Because they are American and they might get better living conditions, and because they want jobs and as soon as you are fired one of them will ponce on an offer.

1. Marta and her friends want to strike because the want more money for picking cotten. (three cents per pound) and better living conditions. They don't have a man of the household so they don't have a fixed cabin to live in.
2. Because they can't afford to lose there jobs and the Okies would take their jobs anyway and the strike would fail.
3. Because they will take their jobs away if they strike.
