1) SHE CHANGES HER MIND ABOUT THE STRIKERS BY WISHING THAT THEY DID NOT GET TAKEN TO MEXICO. SHE SAW THAT AMERICANS WERE EVEN GETING TAKEN TO MEXICO AND AWAY FROM THIER FAMILIES SO ESPERANZA WAS SAD FOR THEM BECAUSE SHE KNOWS WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LOSE FAMILY MEMBERS.
2)SHE FORCES MIGUEL TO GO TO THE STIKER CAMP BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO SEE HOW BADLY THEY WERE TEATED WHEN THEY WERE TAKEN TO MEXICO.
3) RACISM IN ESPERANZA'S CAMP IS VERY BAD BECAUSE THEY TREAT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT AREN'T FROM THE US VERY BADLY FOR EXAMPLE MIGEL GOT HIRED FOR A JOB AS A ENGINIER AND WAS VERY GOOD AT IT, AND WHEN THE OAKIES CAME HERE NOT EVEN KNOWING HOW TO FIX AN ENGINE THEY WERE HIRED AND HE WAS FIRED FROM THAT JOB AND HE HAD TO DIG ON THE SIDE OF THE RAILROAD INSTEAD OF WORKING WITH THE ENGINES. ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS WHEN ISABEL WAS TOP IN HER CLASS ANOTHER GIRL WAS CROWNED QUEAN WHEN IT WAS BASED ON WHO HAD THE BEST GRADES, SHE WASN'T CHOSEN BECAUSE SHE WAS MEXICAN.
4) SHE GIVES IT TO ISABEL BECAUSE SHE IS TO OLD FOR IT AND IT NEEDS LOVING AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE TIME FOR IT NOR DOES SHE WANT IT BECAUSE SHE MIGHT GET MAD FUN OF AND SHE HATES TO GET MADE FUN OF.

1) Esperanza doesn't think it is fair that the strikers are being sent back to mexico. America is supposed to be a free country and you are supposed to have freedom of speech. The strikers are just voicing their opinions, and therefore Esperanza does not think it is fair that the strikers are being sent back to Mexico when they are legal citizens of the U.S. and some of them have never even been to mexico.

2) Esperanza wants to see if anyone is left in the camp, especially Marta and her mom. She changes her mind about Marta after she sees her with her mom and they are so close to eachother. She also wanted to see if the people that she gave the pinata and the beans to were still there.

3) There is much racism in the camps. The Okies get much nicer camps than the mexicans. They get running water, and indoor toilets, and even a pool. The Mexicans do not even get running water. The Mexicans get to use the pool, but they only get to use it the afternoon before it is cleaned on Saturday.

4) Esperanza knows that Isabel will not get to be the queen of may even though she has the best marks in her class and therefore should. They never give other races the crown. Esperanza gives isabel the doll to make her feel good and be happy.

4: Esperanza gave the doll to issebbelle becuase she was never going to use the doll and papa would never want it to just sit inn the case, issebelle would use it and play with it, also since she didnt get the queen of may she would like to show off the doll to all her friends

3:It is displayed by when the okies were coming into the camps they put inn a pool indoor plubming and hot water or water. Esperanzo can only go in the pool on the firday before the day they have to clean the pool. Also the dont have the cloean water and the indoor plumbing, which means that the mexicans were not treated as well as the okies.

2: Esperanza wanted Miguel to take her to the strikers camp after it was raided because she wanted to see if any body was still there and also she wanted to see if the mother of marta was there because she found marta under the dock.

1.) She chamges her mind when she sees that Marta and her friends and family were just trying to make a little more change for the family. Then when they all got sent back to Mexico she sees that some of them are going to Mexico for the first time. They never went to Mexico had to go because they spoke there minds.

2.) She forces Miguel to go because she saw all the strikers start running away from the police because the strike was getting to violate. Then Esperanza saw Marta hiding in the bins and wanted her to be safe. So in the morning she wanted to see if her help helped Marta.

3.) Racism is displayed when the okies get a swimming pool and all the camps can swim in it whenever they want. But Mexicans can only swim in it Friday before the clean the pool Saturday morning. Also Miguel lost his job when the okies wanted less pay ay the railroad station when the probaly havn't even toached a railed engine. When Miguel was great at it.

4.) She gives it to her because it was getting old for her and that she never played with it. So she gave it to Isabel because she would propbaly play with it more.

2. She wants to see what happened to the strikers for just requesting better living conditions.
3. The Oakies are going to get hot water and indoor pluming(indoor toilets) and the Mexicans have to go to the bathroom outside and only have cold water.
4. Because she feels bad that she didn't win queen at her school because she is Mexican.

1. Esperanza feels like the strikers were right. The Mexicans shouldn't be treated differently just because their Mexicans. Its discrimination towards them and really isn't fair to anyone except the people who need jobs that lived in America and are American not Mexican.
2. Esperanza forces him because since she helped Marta she wanted to see if her and her mother were ok. Since she had helped Marta she wanted to see if it had worked and is she was safe with her mother.
3. Racism is shown because the workers from the imagration office came and ripped up (the lady that was striking)papers and said that she wasn't a sidison and that she had to go back to Mexico even though she hadn't ever been there.
4. Esperanza gae that doll to Isabel because since she Mexican she didn't win the Queen of May award at her school so she was sad so Esperanza gave it to her because that doll will last forever but the Queen of May will only last one day. The doll will always be there when Isabel needs confort.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. She wants to see if marta and her mom are fine and not taken away. She wishes the best for marta. The doll she gave to the kid was ripped and beaten.
###################################

1.) Espeanza changes her mind because she saw how bas their living conditions were and felt bad for the. also because she felt bad and angry that the people took the and brought them ALL back to Mexico, even if they were citizens just for speaking there mind.
2.) Esperanza forces Miguel to take her to the striker’s camp because she wanted to see if Marta and her mother got back together.
3.) racism is a part of this book because Miguel didn’t get the job at the railroad because he is Mexican, and the job that he did get, now he got fired because the okies came in and they all got hired because they are American, also because Isabelle didn’t get the may queen because she was not blue eyed, and blond. She is Mexican, even though she did have the best grades.
4.) Espeanza gave the doll to Isabelle because Esperanza never plays with it and she never will, and Isabelle loves to play with dolls so she would use it. also she gave it to Isabel because she felt badly that she didn’t get may queen, so she gave her the doll to cheer her up and so she could show off the doll to every one in her school.

1. Esperanza changed her mind about the strikers because she has finally realized why they are mad (since she now sees how the Eastern Americans will be treated when they come over, like how they get a pool that the Mexicans can only swim in right before they clean the pool.) Also, she knows what it is like to be separated from your family, and she feels bad for the strikers that have to go back to Mexico and leave their families. Esperanza also knows what it is like to be forced to go to a place you do not know and have never been because of what happened to her earlier in the book. She is now realizing all of this and thinks the strikers were right to stand up for what they believe in.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
2. Esperanza goes to the striker’s camp because she wanted to see if all the people in the camp were taken away or if it was just the people who were caught causing trouble.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
3. I know there is racism in the farm camps because the Eastern Americans that are coming over to work are getting hot water and a swimming pool that the Mexicans can only swim in right before it is cleaned because they think the Mexicans are dirty peasants.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
4. Esperanza gave Isabel the doll because she wanted to make Isabel feel good since she didn't get to be Queen of May. Also, she gave the dool to Isabel because she wanted to show her that there were great things in life that lasted for more than 1 day.

3. It is displayed in the farm camps by the Mexicans and other races work the hard jobs and have to be on there legs all the time and do not got a good wandge. Meanwhile the americans get a good wage and get a little break, BUT NOT A LONG TIME

2. She did by she wanted to see how the strikers were and if maRTA WAS OK.

1. Espernaza changes her mind about the strikers after she saw how they were treated when they were taken away after the strike. She felt bad that even United States citizens, who had probably never even been to Mexico, were sent there, and their papers were ripped up.

2. Esperanza forces Miguel to take her to the striker camp after the raid, because she wants to see if there is anyone left, besides Marta. What she expects is for maybe something left, but apparently there is no life there anymore, except for the donkey tied to the tree.

3. Racism is displayed in the farm camps and in the schools. One example is when the Okies from Oklahoma are built a new camp when they come to work there, and they are given a swimming pool, indoor toilets, and hot water. The Mexicans can only swim in the pool on Friday afternoons, the day before they clean it, on Saturday. Another example is when Isabel's school has a dance party and one girl gets to be the queen of it. Isabel's hopes of winning were extremely high, but then they were crushed because she did not win, even though she had the best grades in the class. She did not win because she was Mexican. They would pick a blond haired, blue eyed, lightly skin colored girl instead.

4. Esperanza gives the porceilin doll to Isabel because she realizes that Isabel has never had any of that expensive stuff. Even though she loves her Papa and does not have anything else from him, she believes Isabel needs it more than she does. Also, because Esperanza knows Mama would be very proud of her if she did that, and Esperanza is proud of herself for opening out like that with her heart. Esperanza has definetly changed throughout the book, from rich and spoiled, to a peasent, but loving and giving.

1. Esperanza changes her mind about the strikers after she sees what happens to them because she doesn’t think it's fair that someone is sent back to a place they've never been to, just because they stood up for what is right.

2. Esperanza forces Miguel to take her to the striker camp after the raid because she wants to see if Marta found her way to the strikers camp and met up with her mom.

3. Racism is displayed in the farm camps as follows:

Example #1 They’re making a new camp for Okies with a swimming pool right next to the Mexicans. The Mexicans can only swim in it on Friday afternoons before they clean it.

Example #2 Isabel wasn't named the Queen of May, even though she had the best grades in the school, because she was Mexican and wasn't blond haired and blue eyed.

4. Esperanza gives the porcelain doll that her Papa gave her to Isabel because Esperanza doesn't want Isabel to feel bad about not being the Queen of May. Esperanza tells Isabel that being the Queen of May only lasts one day, so she gives Isabel the doll, which will last more than one day, to keep it as her own doll.

1. Esperanza changes her mind about the strikers after she sees what happens to them because she sees what kind of camp they’re living in so she agrees with them that they need better living conditions. She also thinks that it’s wrong that citizens of America have to get on the bus and sent to Mexico just for speaking their mind.
2. Esperanza forces Miguel to take her to the striker’s camp after the raid because Esperanza wanted to see if Marta and her mother were together again because that’s all she worried about (besides Mama.)
3. Racism is displayed in the farm camps by… in Esperanza’s camp, only families with a man as the head of the household can stay there. Marta doesn’t have a man in her family, and Esperanza is pretending that Alfonso is her cousin. Another show of racism is that Miguel didn’t get the job that he wanted on the railroad because he was Mexican. The Mexicans had to dig ditches or laying down the train tracks. When all the strikers lost their jobs and cabins, Miguel got the job of changing the motor. (I think?) When the OKIES came to fill in for the strikers, Miguel got fired because they OKIES were coming and said they’d take half the pay that they were paying Miguel, and since they were white and Miguel is Mexican, Miguel lost his job to the OKIES. Also, Isabel didn’t win the Queen of May because she was Mexican, but the teacher said it was based on grades. Isabel had the best grades in her class, but lost to someone that had worse grades then her, but a citizen of America, not Mexican.
4. Esperanza gave the porcelain doll that Papa gave to her to Isabel because she felt that since Isabel didn’t get the Queen of May because she was Mexican, Esperanza felt that her Papa didn’t want the doll to be locked in a valise getting dusty when Esperanza was too old to play with her. Isabel needed something to have of her own and it was a nice thing for Esperanza to do because it was one of the last memories that Esperanza had of her Papa.

1} Esperanza changes her mind after she saw the strikers because she saw all the strickers being taken back to Mexico and even if they weren't from Mexico they were sent back anyway.

2} Esperanza forces Miguel to take her to the strikers camp because she wanted to see if anything was left there at the camp. Also, if she Marta and her mother were still there and if anyone was there.

3} Racism is displayed in the farm camps because people are going to build a pool and only the Mexicans can go into the pool on the last day before the poolm is cleaned. Also, there is racism when Isabel went to school only blue eye and blone hair girls were picked. Even though Isabel had the highest grades in her grade and she wasn't queen May.

4} Esperanza gives the porceilin doll to Isabel because Esperanza thought that the doll was to young for her and she tought that if anyone found out that Esperanza had the doll the would make fun of her. So Esperanza gives the doll to Isabel so no one would make fun of Esperanza.

Esperanza changes her mind about the strikers because on page 206 an American woman was striking and got sent to Mexico just becasue she was speaking her mind. She even had papers!! Thats when Esperanza didn't believe that a citizen of America could be kicked out of her own country.
*************2********************
Esperanza forces Miguel to go the srikers camp because she wants to see if Marta is there with her mother and escaped safely.
*************3********************
Racism is displayed on the farm by the Okies getting better living contions (indoor toilets and bathrooms, pool, ect.) Also, Isabel wasn't crowned Queen of May because she was Mexican. The Queen of May was always white, blonde, and blue eyed girl. Last but not least, Miguel was fired because the Okies were going ot work for lower wages. Now, Miguel has to dig ditches.
*************4********************
Esperanza gives Isabel the porceilin doll because she knew that whatever Isabel owned she was always happy. As a reward of her happiness, she gave the doll to her.
